Alright, so I’m through Week 1 of the 8 week training regimen for the AIDS 10K. It’s been a tough, but satisfying, week.
Tuesday’s two mile run was supposed to be an easy run, taking about 22 minutes for the two miles. I decided to see how fast I could run the two miles. I’d pay for that mistake later in the week, but I was pleased to see I could run two miles in just over 17 minutes. Not exactly a world record–nor even what I was capable of in, say, high school, but certainly a world away from what I could do back in June.
Thursday we were supposed to have a 5 mile tempo run, but in an effort to run with Katie, we missed out entirely, and had to run the next day. I completed the run in 55 minutes. We stopped once or twice, and when Katie couldn’t keep pace any longer, I left her behind (sorry, babe!). I’m pretty pleased with the time. Really, though, I need to get the battery in my digital watch replaced, so I can get more accurate times on these jaunts.
Feeling pretty tired on Sunday, still, since our Thursday run was moved to Friday, Katie and I got up early for our six mile Long Run. I finished in about 66 minutes, Katie in just under 75. I like the pace of that, felt pretty good about it overall. I’m hoping to finish the 10K race in under an hour, and this seems like a good starting point. I think I can shave those 6 minutes off in 7 weeks.
